How do I create a new seating plan?

| The easiest way is to follow the on-screen tutorial that will appear if you haven't yet created a seating plan.

Either click the 'Seating Plans' tile on the dashboard, or choose 'Seating Plans' from the toolbar on the left of your screen.
Click 'Create a new seating plan'.
From the drop down menu, select the class that you wish to make a seating plan for. If this list is empty: How do I import a new class?

Next, select the classroom that you wish to put the students into. If this list is empty: How do I create a new classroom?

| If your school has a Platinum subscription, you will see a second box labelled 'School classrooms'. Instead of creating your own classroom, you can search for one created by any other teacher in your school and use that instead.

Click 'Create seating plan'.
A random seating plan will have been created. If there are more students than seats, some students will have been placed in the waiting area tab on the right of your screen. Now it's time to customise your seating plan.
Clicking the 'Rearrange' button on the sidebar will bring up some options for automatically arranging your seating plan. 'Simple sorting' allows you to sort students by one or two specific

How do I import a new class?

| The easiest method is to follow the tutorial that will automatically run if you haven't yet imported any classes.

From the home page click 'Import new class'.

Give your class a name and enter a subject.
All classes must have an expiry date, after which it will be deleted. This defaults to one year from today, but feel free to change it by clicking on the date and selecting a new one from the pop up. Find out more here: Why does my class/seating plan have an expiry date?
Copy and paste the data from a spreadsheet (such as Microsoft Excel) directly into this area by using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl-V (or Cmd-V on a Mac):

The box will automatically expand to accommodate your data. Now press Next.

Mega Seating Plan has tidied up your data and attempted to intelligently match your data to the correct columns. If the first line of your pasted data included headings or titles, make sure this box is ticked.

How do I create a new room?

| This guide is for the new v2 room layouts. Instructions for v1 rooms can be found here.

Click 'Create new room' on the home page.
Enter a name for the classroom and click 'Create new room'.

On the left is the space for your room (you don't need to use the whole space, as it will be automatically trimmed) and on the right is the 'furniture store'. To add furniture to your classroom, simply drag it from the furniture store.

After furniture has been dragged into the room, it can be freely repositioned, rotated and resized. Click on a piece of furniture to see the resize/rotate handles.

When student desks are resized, seating positions are automatically calculated and appear as pale squares. These are the locations that students can appear on the seating plan.
Decorative furniture, such as whiteboards, teacher desks and doors, may also be inserted, moved, rotated or resized. Students cannot be placed on these items.

To delete furniture items, simply drag them outside of the room.

What is the student waiting area?

When a new student is added to a class list, that student will be automatically added to your seating plans for that class, too. They will be added to the 'Student waiting area', which appears as a blue tab on the right-hand side of your page:

You can drag students from the waiting area onto your seating plan, or drag students from your seating plan into the waiting area.

| The easiest way to create a new classroom is to follow the tutorial that will appear if you haven't created one yet

Click 'Create new room' on the home page or on the top menu, go to Rooms -> Create new room.

Give your room a name.
In the box, click to add a seat, click again to remove the seat, and drag/drop to move seats around. The counter at the top will let you know how many seats are in your classroom. Each seat can accommodate one student. Don't worry if your classroom doesn't fill the space available: empty space will be trimmed automatically.

| Rather than thinking of each seat as an individual student desk, think of it is as a position that a student can sit at: it doesn't matter which way the student is facing. You can form nearly any shape of desk by adding seats to the correct positions.

To add decorations (such as whiteboards, doors or sinks) or circular desks, right click and select from the context menu.

When you're happy with your layout, click 'Create classroom'.

How do I share a seating plan with a colleague?

| If your school has a whole-school subscription, all seating plans within your school can be viewed by going to 'Seating plans' -> 'View all plans in my school' from the menu bar.

|| The instructions below are most useful for those without a whole-school subscription or for those who want easy access to a colleague's classes/plans from their home page.

Before you can share a seating plan with a co-worker, you must first add them as a colleague in Mega Seating Plan. This can be done from the home page. Enter the email address of your colleague's account into the box and click 'Add'.

Next, go to the seating plan you wish to share. Click the 'Sharing' button from the sidebar. On the pop-up modal, choose which colleagues you wish to have permission to access your seating plan, and whether they should be allowed 'View only' or 'Editable' permissions.
