# How do I create a custom class?

| Custom classes are available to all users on whole-school plans (Gold or Platinum)

Custom classes allow you to create class groups that are not on your school's system, using students that are. This is better than creating a class manually because the students' data fields will stay up-to-date.

1. From the 'Classes' (or 'Sections') dropdown menu, choose 'Custom classes'.

2. Click 'Create new custom class'.

3. Enter a name for your custom class, and adjust the expiry date if necessary.

4. Add students to the class by searching for them and clicking 'Add'. You can also filter by year group. Selected students will be added to a list on the left. The list automatically saves.

5. The custom class can now be used like any other class to generate seating plans, learn names etc.
